Earthquake Relief In Turkey & Syria

Brother’s Brother Foundation is responding to the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Turkey and Northwest Syria with a comprehensive approach that is addressing needs for immediate survival and long-term recovery.
The United Nations Development Program estimates the February disaster left 1.5 million people in Turkey without homes. BBF is helping the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK) address long-term housing needs by purchasing 10 container homes in the town of Elbistan in Kahramanmaras, Turkey. Each home is equipped with furniture and appliances needed to house a family of four, including a toilet, shower, refrigerator and washing machine. They will also be stocked with everyday necessities, such as towels, plates, cutlery and bed sheets. The homes purchased by BBF will be built in DEIK Town, an initiative aimed at building 1,000 container homes by April. Additional amenities like a health center, café, and kids zone will also be built, creating a community that allows displaced people to regain a sense of normalcy while looking for permanent alternatives. BBF is currently raising money in collaboration with the Carnegie Mellon University Turkish Student Society and Carnegie Mellon University Turkish Alumni Organization to further support this program. Brother’s Brother Foundation partnered with on-the-ground organizations to distribute emergency medical supplies and food while Syrians waited for additional aid to arrive. The ongoing response will also provide 300 tents and 1,500 blankets to displaced families.
Overwhelmed by thousands of injured patients, Syrian medical facilities face major supply shortages. Brother’s Brother Foundation airlifted 21 pallets of medical equipment and hygiene supplies to the Syrian American Medical Society. The surgical equipment, hospital supplies, and everyday hygiene necessities from BBF’s shipment will give healthcare workers the resources they need to deliver live-saving care at SAMS’ hospitals and clinics.
