BBF Grant Supports Open-Heart Surgery Patients Through VOOM Foundation Scholarship Program
Brother’s Brother Foundation recently awarded a healthcare grant to VOOM Foundation in support of its scholarship program, helping expand access to open-heart surgery for patients in Nigeria who face significant financial barriers to care.
The Scholarship Program is an important component of VOOM Foundation’s open-heart surgery mission. Prior to each mission, families are identified and those with the greatest financial need are awarded scholarships to help cover the costs associated with treatment and recovery. The scholarships provide free patient evaluations, hospital stay expenses, post-operative evaluations, and medications necessary for follow-up care.
For many patients, these expenses would otherwise place life-saving surgery out of reach. By helping offset the cost of care, the scholarship program allows patients to focus on treatment and recovery while reducing the financial burden on their families.
The grant from BBF supported this effort by providing financial assistance to patients participating in the mission, ensuring they had access not only to surgery but also to the evaluations, medications, and follow-up services necessary for continued care after the procedure.
VOOM Foundation conducts open-heart surgery missions in partnership with local healthcare providers in Nigeria, bringing together volunteer medical professionals to provide specialized cardiac care while strengthening local healthcare capacity. Through its Scholarship Program, the organization works to ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent eligible patients from receiving treatment.
In addition to supporting patients during surgery, the program emphasizes continuity of care through post-operative evaluations and medications, helping patients receive the follow-up services needed for long-term recovery and improved health outcomes.
