BBF Supports California Wildfire Recovery with Grants to Food Banks
While the wildfires in California are now largely contained, recovery for those affected is only just beginning. Families who lost their homes, jobs, and stability in the fires now face months of rebuilding and uncertainty. In response, Brother’s Brother Foundation (BBF) has provided grants to food banks supporting those in need, ensuring that impacted communities have access to critical food assistance as they navigate the difficult road ahead.
BBF provided a second grant to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, which is ramping up its efforts to support wildfire-affected residents while continuing to serve the broader Los Angeles County community facing food insecurity. The food bank is bringing in additional food, water, and essential supplies for distribution through partner agencies and directly to those in need. In addition to immediate food distribution, the organization is assessing community needs and coordinating with organizations assisting evacuees. As the scope of the crisis unfolds, they anticipate doubling their food distribution output in the coming weeks.
BBF also provided a grant to Westside Food Bank, which is focusing on assisting individuals impacted by the Palisades Fire in West Los Angeles County. The food bank recognizes that the magnitude of the crisis is still unfolding, but they are already seeing the widespread impact on workers in the affected areas. Many housekeepers, landscapers, nannies, grocery clerks, retail employees, and office workers in these communities have suddenly found themselves without income, unable to afford basic necessities like food and rent. With an established infrastructure and experience scaling up operations during disasters, Westside Food Bank is working to distribute food quickly and efficiently to those in need. Financial support is essential to sustaining these efforts, allowing them to purchase the specific food and supplies most needed in the community.
Recent rain has helped slow the fires, with the Hughes Fire now 98% contained and the Palisades Fire at 95% containment, according to Cal Fire. While active flames may no longer be as visible, the impact of these fires will last for months—if not years—as survivors begin the long process of rebuilding.
We are deeply grateful for the support of our partners and donors who make this response possible. 100% of funds received for BBF’s wildfire response will go directly toward supporting emergency relief efforts and logistics.
