Improving Access: Quarterly Highlights from AHN’s Mobile Health Clinic

AHN Quarterly Impact

In 2024, BBF donated a mobile health clinic van to Allegheny Health Network (AHN) to support its efforts in expanding healthcare access across western Pennsylvania. Today, the AHN mobile clinic is serving both pediatric and adult populations, with a focus on individuals who are low-income, uninsured, or otherwise marginalized.

The following update is based on AHN’s most recent quarterly impact report, which highlights how the clinic is continuing to reach underserved populations and respond to growing community needs.

In the past quarter, AHN treated 186 patients across six sites, offering medical exams, chronic disease management, behavioral and women’s health care, hypertension screenings, and pediatric sports physicals. In addition to visiting schools and housing complexes, the mobile clinic also provided care at senior centers.

Demand for these services continues to grow. Community members frequently request return visits and describe the mobile clinic as one of the few accessible and welcoming care options available to them. AHN staff report that feedback from patients and community partners has been overwhelmingly positive. The clinic is becoming a trusted presence, especially in areas where transportation barriers and long-standing mistrust of healthcare systems have made access more difficult.

AHN staff volunteers regularly assist with mobile clinic visits and have found the experience deeply meaningful. In addition to providing immediate care, the team works to ensure patients are connected to follow-up services—helping schedule appointments with primary care providers, making referrals to specialists when needed, and having one-on-one conversations about the importance of preventive care and long-term health planning.

As AHN shared in its report, “The donation of the vehicle by BBF has made an immeasurable impact on our communities and will continue to do so for years to come. We are proud to be in a position to provide care to vulnerable communities in the face of uncertainty.”
