Meeting Health Needs in Liberia

Liberia Medical Mission 5

Med-Surg Trip Brings Care to Underserved Communities

BBF supported Liberia Medical Mission’s recent trip to Liberia as part of our Med-Surg program, providing pharmaceuticals to assist with patient care. The team, composed of medical professionals, traveled to Monrovia, Tubmanburg, and Robertsport, Liberia, where they served both rural and urban communities.

Liberia Medical Mission organized clinics at Bensoville Hospital, a 150-bed facility, and set up seven stations across the region. The mission team provided medical services, vision care, and public health education, including CPR and mental health training. Their work served patients ranging from infants to the elderly, including 20 patients from birth to 18 years old, 220 patients aged 18 to 59, and 780 patients aged 60 and older.

BBF’s pharmaceutical support included key medications to assist the team’s work. Among the medicines provided were antibiotics, diuretics used to manage high blood pressure, and antiviral medications.

During the trip, many patients were diagnosed with chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, conditions they were previously unaware of. Community members expressed their gratitude for the free checkups and medications provided by the mission team, sharing that they would not have been able to afford the treatments on their own.

Liberia Medical Mission coordinates a biannual mission to underserved communities in Liberia and maintains a strong partnership with the Liberian government. Together, they collaborate to deliver healthcare services and provide training for local healthcare workers. BBF’s collaboration with the Liberia Medical Mission is part of our Med-Surg program, which supported 26 trips to 16 countries in 2024, supplying physician-led teams with donated pharmaceuticals to address healthcare needs in underserved areas.
