Powered by Volunteers: A Closer Look at the People Who Make Our Work Possible
Summer Blog Series, Week 1
Volunteers are an essential part of Brother’s Brother Foundation’s operations. From preparing hygiene kits to sorting donated medical supplies, their contributions enable BBF to respond quickly and efficiently to global needs.
One of the primary ways volunteers support BBF is through our Hygiene Kit Assembly Program. These kits, which include soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, and other personal care items, are distributed to individuals and families affected by disasters such as hurricanes, floods, and wildfires. Volunteers help maintain a steady inventory of kits so that BBF is prepared to respond immediately when emergencies occur.
In 2024, BBF sent more than 5,000 hygiene kits to communities in need across the U.S., and in 2025, kits have been donated to individuals in California impacted by wildfires and organizations in the southeastern U.S. affected by tornadoes.
Over the past year, hundreds of volunteers have given their time to support BBF’s programs. Many return regularly, drawn by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through hands-on service. Their efforts extend the reach of BBF’s work and strengthen our capacity to respond to ongoing needs in healthcare and disaster response.
BBF welcomes both individual volunteers and groups, and our Pittsburgh warehouse regularly hosts corporate teams looking for a meaningful, hands-on way to give back. Whether you’re coming on your own or organizing a service day with colleagues, volunteering with BBF is a rewarding opportunity to support communities in need while building connection and teamwork. As we begin this 12-week summer series highlighting the work and mission of BBF, we are proud to start with those who volunteer their time to help make it all possible. The time, care, and consistency of our volunteers continue to be a cornerstone of our impact, both locally and around the world.
