Audiology Mobile Health Van Hosts First Community Event in Sharpsburg
BBF’s newest donated mobile clinic hosted its first community event outside a free health clinic in Sharpsburg. Patients received screenings, along with comprehensive evaluations and follow-up appointments for future care. Referrals were made to ENT specialists when needed, and those identified as candidates for hearing aids were scheduled for fittings at upcoming clinics. One patient received hearing protection during the event, and the wheelchair lift was put into use to support accessibility.
The van was donated in June by Brother’s Brother Foundation to the Eye & Ear Foundation of Pittsburgh. Operated by UPMC audiologists and University of Pittsburgh faculty, it will travel throughout the Pittsburgh region to provide hearing screenings, hearing aid services, and care related to speech and swallowing.
This initiative is part of BBF’s broader Mobile Health Clinic Program, which reduces barriers to healthcare by bringing essential services directly to communities. Since 2022, BBF has donated five mobile health clinics in total: three in the Pittsburgh area, one in Kentucky, and one in Florida. These clinics provide care in areas such as primary care, vision, and hearing.
