BBF Grant Supports Rehabilitation of Health Centre in Jamaica

Brother’s Brother Foundation (BBF) has awarded a grant to Food For The Poor (Jamaica) to help rehabilitate the Maggotty Health Centre in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, following damage caused by Hurricane Melissa.

The Maggotty Health Centre is a Type 3 primary healthcare facility that serves approximately 10,000 residents each year. Operated under the Southern Regional Health Authority, the center provides preventive care, maternal and child health services, chronic disease management, immunizations, and health education.

BBF grant funding will support repairs throughout the facility, including the roof, ceilings, walls, floors, windows, doors, electrical and plumbing systems, sanitation facilities, and perimeter fencing. The project will also include interior and exterior painting and other general repairs needed to restore the building.

Although the health centre has remained open following the hurricane, the damaged facility has created challenges for patients and healthcare workers. The rehabilitation project will improve safety, strengthen infection prevention and sanitation, reduce the risk of service disruptions, and help ensure continued access to quality primary healthcare for the surrounding community.

Food For The Poor (Jamaica) will oversee the rehabilitation in coordination with the Southern Regional Health Authority to minimize disruptions to healthcare services during construction.
