BBF Provides Grant to Support Families Affected by California Wildfires

BBF has provided a grant to Young & Healthy to support families affected by the Eaton Fire. This grant will directly support vulnerable families, aiding their recovery and helping them regain stability.

Since 1990, Young & Healthy, a 501(c)(3) organization, has provided vital health-related services to children and families in Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre—primarily within the Pasadena Unified School District but also in contiguous neighborhoods. Through a network of volunteer medical professionals and strategic partnerships, the organization ensures access to quality healthcare, mental health support, and essential resources for underserved communities. Young & Healthy assists families in enrolling in health insurance plans and teaches them how to maximize their benefits. Additionally, it offers high-quality health education through classes and parent workshops on topics such as mindfulness, oral health, and the impact of trauma on the brain. In these ways, the organization works to ensure that every child, regardless of financial circumstances, receives the care they need to thrive.

Following the Eaton Fire, Young & Healthy quickly resumed services, recognizing that many of its clients were directly affected. Approximately 97% of the families served lived in homes that were either destroyed or damaged by the fire. In response, the organization swiftly mobilized to provide urgently needed clothing, food, and personal care items, generously donated by local and national organizations. Beyond hosting two community distribution events, Young & Healthy continues to support individuals in its office by assessing their ongoing needs, offering traditional services, and providing direct cash relief through gift and grocery cards. Additionally, the organization has distributed a small stock of donated air purifiers, which are currently in high demand.

BBF’s grant will help Young & Healthy continue providing these essential services, ensuring that families affected by the fire receive the support they need during this critical time.
