The aftermath of the January wildfires in California continues to leave families facing hardship, with many struggling to rebuild their lives while also dealing with food insecurity. To ensure that those affected have access to nutritious meals and essential supplies, BBF has provided additional funding to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, reinforcing our commitment to supporting communities through disaster relief.

For over 50 years, the LA Regional Food Bank has been a pillar of support for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. Their disaster response efforts extend beyond food distribution, mobilizing resources to assist those most in need. In the wake of the wildfires, the Food Bank has significantly ramped up its operations, working alongside disaster relief organizations, government agencies, and its network of 600 community partners to meet the growing demand for emergency food assistance.

Since the wildfires began in early January, the Food Bank has distributed over 24.5 million pounds of food and essential supplies—valued at more than $39 million—to impacted individuals and families. This includes ready-to-eat meals, water, and personal care items, ensuring that those displaced or struggling with financial instability have access to critical resources. The Food Bank has also increased its mobile distributions, reaching affected communities through drive-through events and direct outreach at wildfire resource hubs.

BBF’s disaster response program is designed to address both immediate and long-term needs. This latest grant marks BBF’s third contribution to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, following two grants in January that provided critical support in the immediate aftermath of the fires. In addition to financial assistance, BBF also sent hygiene kits to help families facing crisis. This new funding will ensure that essential aid continues as recovery efforts progress.

Among the many individuals receiving assistance is Julius, a wildfire survivor who lost his family home of nearly 50 years in the Eaton Fire. Now temporarily staying in Inglewood, he shared how the support from the Food Bank has helped him navigate this difficult time. “Until it happens to you, you don’t realize the impact of losing everything,” he said. “I came by to see what I could use, and I appreciate the atmosphere and the friendliness of everybody. It’s good to have people like this.”

Through community food distributions, like one recently held at SoFi Stadium, the Food Bank is helping individuals like Julius regain stability while they work to rebuild.

BBF’s support will help sustain the Food Bank’s heightened level of operations as they continue to provide relief in the months ahead. The road to recovery for many families will be long, but through this partnership, we are helping to ensure that no one faces hunger in the wake of disaster. By working together, we can bring hope, stability, and nourishment to those rebuilding their lives.
