BBF’s Infrastructure Program: Building a Stronger Foundation
Summer Blog Series Week 4
BBF’s Infrastructure Program supports long-term health and development by investing in clean energy, safe water, and sanitation systems. Through solar power and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) initiatives, BBF helps build reliable and sustainable solutions in communities where basic infrastructure is lacking.
BBF’s solar work began in 2013 with battery installations for hospitals in Liberia. Since then, the program has expanded to include full solar panel systems that provide clean, affordable, and reliable energy for schools, health facilities, and community centers. At home in Pittsburgh, BBF has embraced sustainability at our own headquarters. In 2022, we installed rooftop solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations at our warehouse. The solar array now offsets 92% of our building’s annual energy use—lowering operational costs and reducing our environmental footprint.
In 2024, BBF’s Infrastructure Program reached five countries and territories, improving access to energy, clean water, and safe facilities for learning and care. These efforts reflect BBF’s commitment to supporting basic needs in ways that create lasting, community-centered change.
