The Municipal Hospital Barsequillo is located in Bajos de Haina, a rural area in the San Cristobal province of the Dominican Republic. Each month, the hospital provides emergency care services to an average of 4,500 patients and gynecological and obstetric services to 1,300 pregnant women, pediatric care to over 900 children. The hospital’s outpatient services address conditions such as chronic respiratory disease, hypertension and gastric problems.

Municipal Barsequillo faces significant challenges, including a constrained budget and the extreme poverty of its surrounding community.  While the hospital receives some medications and medical supplies from the Dominican government, generous donations from BBF Global Relief have made a significant difference in the hospital’s ability to provide outstanding care.

In fall 2023, BBF sent a shipment of life-saving medications and vital medical supplies, such as crutches, gloves and masks, to the hospital.

Ana Moreno, the hospital administrator, emphasized the importance of these donations in providing care to those who truly need it, especially children and single mothers who cannot afford healthcare due to their economic situations.

“If we did not receive these donations, our medical staff would have to work with what they have, and even our patients would be facing more financial difficulties seeking healthcare and medicines,” Moreno said.
