Expanding Medical Relief for Communities Affected by the Venezuela Earthquakes

Brother’s Brother Foundation awarded a disaster response grant to Food For The Poor to help address urgent healthcare needs following the powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela in late June 2026.

The magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes caused widespread destruction, leaving 5,398 people dead and 16,740 injured. More than 23,000 people were living in transitional camps following the disaster.

BBF’s grant supported the purchase and distribution of medicines, medical supplies, and medical equipment for affected communities. Food For The Poor carried out this work through the Wayuu Taya Foundation, its primary partner for distributing donated resources in Venezuela.

The Wayuu Taya Foundation assisted displaced families and other affected communities, primarily in La Guaira and Caracas. Through its response, the organization reached more than 50,000 people, including those living in transitional camps. It received four air shipments and two ocean freight shipments containing food, hygiene kits, medicines, medical supplies, and other essential items.

The grant to FFTP followed BBF’s initial response to the earthquakes. In July, BBF awarded a disaster response grant to the Venezuelan American Medical Association Foundation to provide essential medicines and medical supplies to hospitals and health centers treating survivors.

That funding supported the purchase of supplies within Venezuela, allowing VAMA to respond quickly and coordinate deliveries through its network of physicians across the country. Together, the two grants helped healthcare providers and community organizations deliver medical care and essential resources to people affected by the earthquakes.
