Expanding Medical Relief for Communities Affected by Venezuela’s Earthquakes

Brother’s Brother Foundation has awarded a disaster response grant to Food For The Poor to help address urgent healthcare needs following the powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela in late June 2026.

The magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes caused widespread destruction, leaving 5,398 people dead and 16,740 injured. More than 23,000 people are currently living in transitional camps.

The grant will support the purchase and distribution of medicines, medical supplies, and medical equipment for communities affected by the disaster. Food For The Poor will carry out this work through the Wayuu Taya Foundation, its primary partner for distributing donated resources in Venezuela.

The Wayuu Taya Foundation has been assisting displaced families and other affected communities, primarily in La Guaira and Caracas. Through its response efforts, the organization has reached more than 50,000 people, including those living in transitional camps. It has received four air shipments and two ocean freight shipments containing food, hygiene kits, medicine, medical supplies, and other essential items, with 11 additional containers in transit.

The grant builds upon BBF’s earlier response to the earthquakes. In July, BBF awarded a disaster response grant to the Venezuelan American Medical Association Foundation to provide essential medicines and medical supplies to hospitals and health centers treating survivors.

That funding supported the purchase of supplies within Venezuela, allowing VAMA to respond quickly and coordinate deliveries through its network of physicians across the country. Together, the two grants are helping healthcare providers and community organizations reach people affected by the earthquakes with critical medical care and essential resources.
