Grant Supports VOOM Foundation Scholarship Program for Open-Heart Surgery Patients
BBF has provided a grant to support the VOOM Foundation Scholarship Program, helping expand access to open-heart surgery for patients in Nigeria who cannot afford care.
Through the scholarship program, families are identified prior to each surgical mission and awarded assistance based on financial need. The support covers free patient evaluations, hospital stay expenses, post-operative follow-up visits, and medications required for recovery. By covering the full course of treatment, the program helps ensure patients receive both the surgery and the continued care necessary for successful outcomes.
In 2025, VOOM performed 35 percent of all open-heart surgeries in Nigeria and managed several of the country’s most complex cardiac cases. BBF has partnered with VOOM in previous years to help strengthen local cardiac care capacity and expand access to advanced treatment. This grant continues that partnership by directly supporting patients whose financial circumstances would otherwise prevent them from receiving life-saving surgery.
