Stories of Impact

Imagine the world where people get the help they need, when they need it the most. We strive to achieve that vision every day.

Educational Materials Reach Students Across the Philippines

In April 2025, Brother’s Brother Foundation (BBF) shipped thirteen 40-foot containers of McGraw Hill educational materials to the Philippines in partnership with Children International. The shipment included English and math textbooks, along with teacher edition packages designed to support classroom instruction and strengthen literacy programs.

Children International recently shared their report describing the distribution and impact of these materials across the country. Through a network of partner organizations, the books have been distributed to schools, community organizations, and local government units across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, reaching hundreds of distribution sites and benefiting more than 200,000 students.

The donated textbooks are helping address a common challenge in many schools where access to learning materials is limited. Teachers report that the books are being used to strengthen reading comprehension and expand vocabulary among students, while also supporting classroom instruction through the accompanying teacher editions.

The materials have also helped schools enhance reading programs and provide students with engaging resources that support subjects such as English, math, and science. Teachers noted that the colorful illustrations and high-quality design make the books especially appealing to young readers and help encourage a stronger interest in reading and learning.

In some communities, the books have been incorporated into structured literacy initiatives aimed at improving reading skills and supporting academic recovery efforts. Classroom libraries and reading groups have expanded as students gain access to materials that were previously unavailable.

Through this partnership with Children International, BBF’s donation is helping strengthen educational opportunities for students across the Philippines. By providing access to quality textbooks and learning resources, the project is supporting teachers, encouraging literacy, and helping students build the skills needed for future success.

“I use the books in the classroom to improve their reading comprehension. The donated books help expand the vocabularies of our children and enhance their imaginations. The books have illustrations which are very helpful especially for visual learners,” says Ms. Irene Brinces, teacher at UpperMalabog Elementary School in Daraga.

Ms. Maria Fe Esquejo, another teacher at Upper Malabog Elementary shares, “One of the challenges that we’re facing is the lack of books from the Department of Education. These donated materials we use to help the children improve their reading comprehension, which is one of the challenges that we face with the pupils.”

Third grade student at Upper Malabog Elementary, Francis, said “My favorite story in the book that I’ve read is about King Midas. I like reading the book because I learn how to help others and doing good deeds.”
