Powering Reliable Care in Rural India

In partnership with Solar Village Project (SVP), Brother’s Brother Foundation recently funded the installation of a 1 kW rooftop solar system with a 2 kWh battery backup at the Pawana Health and Wellness Centre (HWC) in India. The new system now powers critical medical equipment and lighting, ensuring consistent care for an estimated 35 patients each day.

BBF’s grant supported the project, which included design, installation, and multi-year operations and maintenance. Within two months, the system was commissioned and already in use.

“We completed the Pawana HWC installation last week, and the staff were already using the system the day we powered on,” shared SVP’s team.

This initiative follows a recent needs assessment that identified eight government Health and Wellness Centres in the region experiencing grid power outages lasting up to 10 hours a day. These disruptions threaten vaccine refrigeration and limit the ability to provide urgent treatment.

The solar installation at Pawana HWC now safeguards vaccine storage, lights treatment rooms during outages, and powers essential diagnostic equipment—creating a reliable and sustainable foundation for healthcare delivery in the community.
