BBF Responds to Hurricane Melissa
Hurricane Melissa was an extremely powerful and catastrophic tropical cyclone that became the third-most intense Atlantic hurricane on record and the strongest storm ever to make landfall in Jamaica. The Category 5 hurricane brought widespread destruction across the island, surpassing the devastation of Hurricane Gilbert in 1988 and marking the deadliest event since Hurricane Charlie in 1951.
In response, BBF immediately mobilized relief supplies, sending 14 pallets — over 6,000 hygiene kits —along with 220 hard hats, cleaning supplies, disinfecting wipes, and diapers to a partner organization operating in both Southern Florida and Jamaica. These supplies helped meet urgent needs in affected communities.
As recovery efforts continue, BBF may provide additional assistance, including financial support, medicines, medical supplies, and equipment for those injured or displaced by the storm. Donations in support of BBF’s Hurricane Melissa response may be made on the website by selecting Hurricane Response from the dropdown menu. 100% of donations received will be used for emergency relief and logistics.
