Train Them to Fish Provides Medical Care in Uganda with BBF’s Pharmaceutical Support
BBF provided pharmaceuticals to support Train Them to Fish’s medical mission trip to Uganda in late June and early July 2024. The organization operated medical and dental clinics for underserved individuals, aiming to provide both immediate care and education on preventive health practices.
A team of volunteers participated in the trip, including 13 from the United Kingdom, approximately 18 from the United States, two from the Czech Republic, and three from Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. At the Latylytia medical clinic, the team treated approximately 1,500 patients. The dental clinic saw more than 300 individuals, performing numerous extractions. More than 200 people received reading glasses after undergoing vision assessments. Medications were distributed as needed, and patients requiring additional treatment were sponsored for care at local hospitals.
BBF provided a range of medications to support the mission’s efforts. These included medications used to help regulate blood sugar levels in diabetes patients; treat high blood pressure and chest pain; sedatives for medical procedures; antibiotics for bacterial infections; nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain relief; antifungal medications; and corticosteroids for inflammation and immune system suppression.
The trip provided treatment to individuals in need and supplied necessary medications while also ensuring that those requiring further care could access local hospitals for additional support.
