Typhoon Relief Brings Clean Water and Supplies to Cebu Communities
Following the devastating typhoon that struck the Philippines in 2025, Brother’s Brother Foundation (BBF) provided a grant to support relief efforts led by Children International and its local partner, Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. in Cebu Province.
In the aftermath of the storm, communities faced urgent needs related to water, sanitation, and hygiene. Floodwaters from nearby rivers left homes filled with mud and debris, creating unsafe living conditions and increasing the risk of illness. In response, the project focused on providing families with safe drinking water and essential cleaning supplies so they could begin restoring their homes and protecting their health.
Through the support of BBF’s grant, more than 7,000 typhoon-impacted families across nine local government units in Cebu Province received potable drinking water and cleaning supplies. Access to clean water was particularly critical in the days following the storm, helping reduce the risk of water-borne illnesses often associated with flooding and contamination of local water sources.
While the original plan had been to use the funding to purchase a water filtration system, a rapid needs assessment conducted by local partners revealed that immediate access to safe drinking water and cleaning materials would provide the most urgent support. The grant funds were used to purchase potable water as well as items such as shovels and cleaning supplies, allowing families to remove mud and debris from their homes and return safely.
“We are deeply grateful to Brother’s Brother Foundation for their timely partnership in response to the typhoon in the Philippines. Their support enabled Children International to work alongside trusted local partners to address urgent water, sanitation, and health needs at a critical moment for families. This partnership helped protect children’s well-being and reinforced the importance of standing with communities during times of crisis.” – Christina Becherer, Senior Global Director of Strategic Partnerships at Children International
