Final Grant Report: Fire Relief Efforts in Altadena, California

Final Grant Report Flintridge

This article summarizes the final report submitted to Brother’s Brother Foundation (BBF) for a grant issued in 2025 to support fire relief efforts in Altadena, California following the Eaton Fire.

On the evening of January 7, 2025, the Eaton Fire began and quickly spread to more than 1,000 acres as thousands of residents evacuated their homes. As the scope of the devastation became clear, particularly in the historically Black community of Altadena, local leaders and community organizations mobilized to respond.

Flintridge Center opened its facility to host the Dena Relief Drive, a volunteer run drive through operation that provided essential supplies and resources directly to displaced families. The effort served 1,500 impacted families, engaged more than 1,000 volunteers, and distributed over $100,000 in donated goods.

BBF grant funds supported the second phase of this work, which focused on meeting the acute and medium term needs of survivors in the months following the fire. Over a six month period, Flintridge leveraged its organizational capacity to distribute funds directly to those affected.

By October 2025, all fire relief funds had been distributed to survivors. In total, 473 families received help to cover rental and housing costs as well as other urgent needs such as food, transportation, clothing, and health related expenses. In addition, funds supported community events serving impacted youth and families.
