Medical Relief Flight Brings Wounded Ukrainian Soldiers to the U.S. for Lifesaving Care
BBF provided a grant to Operation Mordechai to support a lifesaving medical evacuation mission that transported six severely wounded Ukrainian soldiers from the Army Medical Center in Lviv to hospitals in the United States for advanced treatment.
The complex operation, organized by Revived Soldiers Ukraine, in partnership with Operation Mordechai and BBF, marked one of the most intricate medical evacuations since the start of the war. Due to the soldiers’ critical conditions, no commercial or charter airline could safely accommodate them, requiring a specially equipped private aircraft and coordinated international effort.
Two soldiers suffering from severe abdominal injuries were transported to the University of Illinois Hospital for emergency surgical care, while four others requiring prosthetic treatment were flown to specialized facilities in Orlando, Pennsylvania, and Chicago. The month-long preparation and coordination required the involvement of medical teams from Ukraine’s Ministry of Health, the Armed Forces Medical Command, and hospital partners in the U.S.
The cost of the private medical flight was fully covered through the collaboration of Revived Soldiers Ukraine, Operation Mordechai Foundation, Brother’s Brother Foundation, and additional sponsors. Upon arrival, the soldiers were immediately transported to hospitals where medical teams were standing by to begin urgent care and rehabilitation.
BBF has supported humanitarian and medical relief efforts in Ukraine since the beginning of the war, providing grants and shipments of essential supplies to hospitals, clinics, and partner organizations working to save lives and restore care for those affected by conflict.
